Why an Indian origin American recognized abroad is a slap on the face of India?

When Satya Nadella was announced as CEO of the Software Giant Microsoft, I read one article that said “It is a slap on the face of India“. The article emphasizes that many Indians after moving outside the country are growing in their career to such an extent that the people of that country were still aspiring. Also it was pointed out that a country who has produced entrepreneurs like Mr. Satya is still working on outsourcing instead of developing the country to be fit for the so called entrepreneurs to live and flourish their companies.

Another article focused on the issue that Mr. Nadella did not mention anytime about his country or his place of birth or his education in India. Not only him but many Indians who settled abroad and after getting famous in their fields never spoke about their country. So, the article in a way criticized successful Indian origin(s) who are settled outside and became famous in a deleterious manner.

So based on the above articles, we end up with two questions:

1) Is it true that an Indian becoming successful after settling abroad is a slap on the face of India?

2) Is it necessary that they speak about their country and other things after leaving the country for so many years and almost forgot about how it looks like?

Coming to the first question, it is very much true that as a country we are failing to attract or retain our own Indian geniuses and allowing them to fly abroad??There are many factors that plays for this.

One is globalization effect which provided free trades between the countries that only need some agreements and terms of conditions. That has brought many improvements in the country like technology, infrastructure and others. This has provided a vast understanding and knowledge about the outside world to the people of India.

Especially India is comprised of many poor and middle class families who work hard for their food and shelter and on the other side the so called rich who are involved in exploiting the people by involving in scams, scandals and by doing atrocities on the poor and helpless citizens of the country.

This makes everyone angrier but they eventually learnt to subsidize their anger in the form of flying outside the country and settle down in a much safer place. Because, the other countries attract people only who have some specialized skills or entrepreneurs they lack and we Indians fit in that criteria. And obviously that leads the flyers a path to success and fame.

Not only this but also we observed that awards are given and people recognized in India when they have been awarded by another country and same holds good for movies too. Why is the talent not recognized until someone from outside recognizes it? Just one Mr. Premzi or Narayana Murthy or Tata’s are not sufficient for holding the intelligent breed of India. Even government has to come up to ease the process of starting businesses in different areas so that one area invites development in many other areas by making all of them interdependent for the growth of theirs and for the country.

On a positive note, this is not definitely a slap on the face of India but a chance to show its intelligent breed to the world to get more projects and inviting more businesses to the country. And since India is an overpopulated country we cannot expect government to help everyone. All the great business men of India should come up with capital and give loans or chances for younger entrepreneurs to build their business like how the Silicon Valley flourished in USA. If we want to provide enough opportunities to the young people we must also understand that the development has to come up in multiple sectors and as a young nation who is still trying to prove its mettle it may need some more years to go. But definitely based on the pattern that the county is growing it will be able to retain the intelligent breed of Indian in its own shell for sure.

Now, coming to the second question, each individual is different and some show patriotic feelings towards their motherland and some do not. Also it depends upon the factors that made them to behave like that. For example, if you look at American society they always call themselves Americans first and Indians call themselves by their caste or religion or region or language still. This difference does not inculcate the habit of representing them by themselves by their country’s name from the childhood. Still we are going through the same caste system or reservations or the fights which vexes most of the Indians.

A person who would like to live in the free nation is still affected by many factors that he need not worry about. Once India used to have rich culture and heritage and people of India are praised across the world. But because of the shady things happening in the country, it has defamed Indians as a whole and now their status has also changed in the eyes of the other nations and this is leading to many debates on the greatness of the country where many of the Indians are facing difficulty to prove their stand. So, being a citizen of another country they have to safe guard their personal interests too and so based on the circumstances it is up to their own discretion that they speak about their nationality or not. That should not be treated in negative manner.

Instead the country has to develop a feeling of oneness and represent themselves by their country name. Instead of fighting for dividing the country on the basis of region or religion or language they need to sort out the problems by finding the root cause of the issues. Our intelligence lies in showing the world we are united and also caution our neighbors not to take light approach on our integrity. As of now we all need to work on the integrity issues rather than debating and wasting precious time on why someone did not speak about the country or their religion. We have many problems on the table to solve and it is better to focus on that instead of unwisely discussions.
