My review on Turkish movie “Hükümet Kadın”

I was going through Netflix movies other day and being always fascinated to learn and understand other cultures thought of this as an opportunity and picked up this movie “Hükümet Kadın”. Because the dialogues were so fast and so the subtitles were. Sometimes I had to pause the movie to read the subtitles. Thanks to Netflix and the companies who provide subtitles to the movies, people like me were able to appreciate movies in other languages.

I started with a doubt if I would like this movie but started watching. I could see some terms in their language meets Hindi may be I could find one or two though. This movie portrays a strong woman character but stubborn with a strong will power and true passion to help others, a mother like figure to everyone. The movie shows the struggle of the lead character whose name is Xate (played by Demet Akbağ) to get water to her village who accidentally becomes Mayor after her husband dies. She rescues many girls who has been treated badly by their family members and provides shelter to them. With their help she would lay the pipe lines for getting water into their village.

The antagonist role is Faruk (played by Sermiyan Midyat, who also was director of the movie) and he entertains audience through out the movie along with the main role Xate. Though the movie seems very simple, but shows the hardship of one woman who is so idealistic in her views, though not well educated, but still manage to learn basics of education and gets appreciated for her work. Also, the movie shows the joint families and the fun being together. The lead role Xate totally mesmerizes audience with her acting skills. I am no great critic, but would definitely praise the acting skills of these two actors. They just do justice to their characters with no room for compromise anywhere.

One more thing worth mentioning about the movie is this one song that is so mesmerizing and could not stop praising it, though I do not understand the language. Here is the video that I am speaking about. This song truly attracted me and made me appreciate the Turkish music. Hats off to the music director and singer of this song.

One more thing is a group dance by friends and family members based on occasions to cherish happy moments with simple steps holding each other hands, which seems to be more natural and realistic.

Overall this movie is a total entertainer and so natural, realistic and fun. A simple message of helping others, being a responsible human being, idealistic mother and wife conveyed so beautifully in this movie. I am sure this movie would have been a great hit in Turkey.
